I have a full recap of last night’s State of the Franchise over on BJH. A few interesting points: the Blue Jays had offers out to two free agents for more money and more years, but those free agents turned those offers down (Beltran and Madson possibly?)
Also, Beeston has looked into bringing in a grass field into the Rogers Centre, citing the turf is a reason why some free agents don’t want to come to Toronto.

There’s been a big uproar by Blue Jays fans this off-season, and one wonders whether club has done a proper job of managing their expectations. While I think the Blue Jays could have gone about things a little differently, I trust what’s going on behind the scenes.
More or less, let’s just let AA and the Beest do their jobs. There’s no point in second-guessing every single move of this regime because they’re going about things the right way and trying to build a sustainable winner.

When it comes to baseball teams, there could not not be two organizations that are further apart on the spectrum right now than the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers. But it wasn’t all that long ago where both the Dodgers and Blue Jays were on an even keel.
So what changed so suddenly? In a matter of mere months, the Dodgers front office has changed the entire culture of the team. As opposite as the Blue Jays and Dodgers appear to be on the surface, it actually turns out they have one big thing in common; money.

I’m actually pissed off about it. And the reason being: Can you tell me who the favourite is in the American League? There isn’t one. There’s no one team to beat. Everybody’s got a shot … I’m more pissed off because that could have been us.
