Dave Stieb, 1984 Topps/Milton Bradley Championship Baseball

I just wanted to take a second and thank all of you. This is the 200th Retro Jays Cards post, and I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has checked out this little project of mine. As a baseball fan I am part of a wonderfully nerdy subset of the sports fan community. Add the incredible nerdiness that comes from collecting baseball cards and I have painted myself into quite an “uncool” corner here.

But seeing that so many of you keep coming back and reading this blog has been a real joy. I love talking about the cardboard treasures that were such an integral part of my experience growing up and my connection to baseball.

So thank you to all the tumblr subscribers and readers of Retro Jays Cards, especially those who have made requests. Also a special thanks to the various amazing bloggers/writers/Jays super-fans who have helped spread the word including Mop Up Duty, The Tao of Stieb, Andrew Stoeten and DJF, The Blue Jay Hunter, Back in Blue and others.

I was trying to think of the best way to say thank you and there was only one way to do it- Dave Stieb with a beard. So here is my thank you to everyone for your interest and support. Just drink it in, because for a brief shining moment Dave Stieb became the sex symbol I always knew he could be. Perfection.*

*Yes, I have a beard. No, I don’t think that colours my opinion on the matter at all.

The phrase “by the beard of Zeus” has now officially been replaced by “by the beard of Stieb”.
