The State of the Franchise Recap →
I have a full recap of last night’s State of the Franchise over on BJH. A few interesting points: the Blue Jays had offers out to two free agents for more money and more years, but those free agents turned those offers down (Beltran and Madson possibly?) Also, Beeston has looked into bringing in a grass field into the Rogers Centre, citing the turf is a reason why some free agents...

2012 Blue Jays Promotional Schedule Released
Rejoyce, Blue Jays fans! The team has come out with their 2012 Promotional Schedule. There are lots of great giveaways this season, including three .. yes, three bobblehead giveaway days. Brandon Morrow, Ricky Romero and Yunel Escobar will all be available in bobblehead form. The best part is that the giveaways have increased from the first 10,000 fans to the first 20,000 fans. That’s...

Random find of the day: a picture of Paul Molitor packing his Milwaukee Brewers bag and revealing a Toronto Blue Jays jersey.

Building a Bullpen is like Building Voltron →
I’m not exactly sure how one goes about building a bullpen, but I’ve always envisioned it as something similar to putting Voltron together

Darren Oliver's New Nickname is "Buzz Oliver"
I just so happened to be perusing through Baseball Think Factory’s 2012 ZIPS Projections for the Toronto Blue Jays, and stumbled across what could be Darren Oliver’s new moniker: Buzz. This is the first I’ve ever heard of this, but I’m a big fan of the “Buzz Oliver” nickname. It makes him sound like a drill sergeant or something.

Randy Johnson Almost Traded to the Blue Jays →
It nearly happened in 1993: a trade to bring Randy Johnson to the Blue Jays was agreed in principle. The reason why it didn’t happen was Pat Gillick couldn’t reach Seattle Mariners GM Woody Woodward, as he was out on the golf course. After he finished his round, Woodward called Gillick back and agree on the trade: Randy Johnson for Mike Timlin and Steve Karsay. But Gillick had...

The MLB Salary Arbitration Flow Chart
Major League Baseball’s Salary Arbitration process is very confusing. I find that every year, I’m discovering something completely new about arb. So to make it a little easier, I created this Salary Arbitration Flow Chart. And yet … even a flow chart can’t make the process any more exciting or colourful.

Thanks to the magic of the internet and Carlos Delgado’s Twitter account, we can relive this epic moment in Blue Jays history. It’s Carlos Deglado’s four home run game from September 25th, 2003. The fourth home run actually bounces off Windows restaurant, and my favourite part was how Delgado threw his bat the second after he made contact with the ball. He knew it was long...

AA's Comments on Prime Time Sports: Something or... →
When Bob McCown asked Alex Anthopoulos if this was his team today, this was AA’s response: “Right now I would say yes, but I’m hopeful something will break in 2-3 weeks, but as we sit here today I think this will most likely be the team going into Spring Training.”

This isn’t really Blue Jays related, but I have to give Justin Verlander props for keeping such a slim physique for eating Taco Bell every 5 days. I think I heard somewhere that Jose Bautista’s pre-game meal is tea and toast. A very modest meal compared to Justin Verlander’s.

Michael Grange of Rogers Sportsnet follows Ricky Romero at his home in East LA. Great feature on the Blue Jays ace (and incidentally, his dog’s name is Ace).

Barry Bonds "Say No To Drugs" Armbands
These aren’t Blue Jays related, but a great find nonetheless: the infamous “Say No To Drugs” Armbands from 1987. Notice the personalized patches for Barry Bonds with the player’s likeness sewn in. Apparently a bevy of Major Leaguers wore these during the 1987 season, including the Blue Jays own Jesse Barfield. If I track down the Barfield armbands, I’ll be sure to...

Eric Thames is Now on Twitter
Eric Thames AKA Chocolate Thunder is the latest Blue Jay to join the Twitterverse. Be sure to give him a follow @EThames14. He already graced us with a pic of his off-season beard, and he’s looking more and more like Shaft.
